April 15 : Consider Your Call, 1 Corinthians 1: Learn about Corinth as a divided Greek City and consider what it means to be humble, and called by God.
April 22: Walking in the Spirit, 1 Corinthians 2-3: What is the difference between earthly wisdom and spiritual wisdom? Learn about Paul’s description of the Spirit of God, how it applies to division and affects how we build for God.
April 29: On Being Moral: 1 Corinthians 5-7: Paul has harsh words for the Corinthians. Are they too harsh? We’ll consider Paul’s basic guidance for believers in community and the downside of Paul’s association of bad sin with sexual sin.
May 6: Love Builds Up: 1 Corinthians 8-11: What do we do with our Christian freedom? What is the difference of having rights and serving the Gospel? We’ll consider how in Christ, we look out for the good of all.
May 13: Gifts Used in Love: 1 Corinthians 12-14 : Paul gives suggestions of how the Corinthians can work together, in-spite of their differences. While this chapter is often associated with marriage, these are chapters are written to a divided congregation. Finally, we’ll reflect on the gifts of tongues, Greek culture and worship.
May 20: Christ Raised from the Dead: 1 Corinthians 15-16: A discussion on the Greek understandings of dualism, death and souls in the after life. We will further explore the Jewish and Christian understanding of the value of the body being transformed but still embodied and how we exalt in this hope.
