Milestone Moments

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Last night, the Middle School youth of Ascension Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran Church and Christ the King Lutheran Church celebrated their last night of this year’s Confirmation gatherings. Over the past year, the class has enjoyed conversations and prayer over meals, learned about God and what it means to be a follower of His Son, Jesus Christ and to live among God’s faithful people. They’ve had fun and participated in some service and attended retreats off-site together. The youth have had the privilege of getting to know their guides and vice versa during monthly small groups.
The youth started their final evening listening to fellow 8th graders as they read their paper on what it means to them to be a Christian, and then tried their hands…and feet at a life-size game of Twister. To end the evening the youth, alongside their guides, leaders and parents ate ice cream around a bonfire, reflecting on what they’ve learned and who has supported them in their journey. Offering prayers like incense to the Lord, the class thanked God for the people, family, friends and experiences that meant the most this past year. It’s hard to believe we have come to another year’s end. Time is so precious!
As we bless the end of this year’s weekly Confirmation gatherings, we look forward to all the summer has to offer and beginning again next September!
Dear God, there is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven. Summer is a time for ice cream cones, driveway basketball games, neighborhood swimming, and lazy afternoons. May the joyous season of summer reflect God’s loving care for our children and youth. Help us to savor our times of sun, relaxation and leisure with our friends and family. And may we remember one another in prayer until we meet again. Amen.
