God’s Calling–Jonah 1

“We are beginning a series on the book of Jonah. In the first chapter, we read how because of his resistance to God’s call, Jonah fled in the opposite direction. God caused a storm to stop his getaway boat. To stop the boat from sinking the crew ended up throwing him overboard. This reminds me of Bonhoeffer’s words noting that when Christ calls someone he bids them come and die. This is not a physical death but a dying to going after our own way.
