SUP Fall Kickoff–August 18th
Posted on August 13, 2016 | Posted by Annie Saunders
“Gold Rush or Bust! Come to Colorado and make it rich! Gold everywhere! Go West!”
If you were living in the latter part of the 19th century, this is what you would’ve read in your Midwest or East-coast hometown newspaper. After the success of the California Gold Rush, why would you expect anything different in Colorado? But it was different…very different.
Learn more about our state’s fascinating history on Thursday, August 18th as SUP kicks off its fall program with “Colorado and the Settlement of the West.” SUP starts at noon on Ascension’s main level, the presentation portion from 12:30-1:30. Our guest speaker is Ms. Casey Pearce, Programming and Communications Coordinator at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry. Casey is a historian and anthropologist who specializes in U.S. Westward Expansion and Colorado mining history–and she can’t wait to share her passion for history with us all!
Lunch is provided, but side-dishes are always welcomed. Or, brown bag it and just come for the talk. Join your friends and neighbors to discover Colorado and its incredible history. This is for all ages, therefore students off from school are encouraged to come as well. See you there!
