Blessing of the Backpacks 2018
Posted on August 2, 2018 | Posted by Annie Saunders
On August 12th, Ascension will be participating in our annual school supply drive, Blessing of the Backpacks.
Deacon Mary Stoneback, director of faith formation, describes this event best, “It’s a time for the community to come together and bless the students, teachers, administrators and families going back to school and commemorate the beginning of a new school year. We bless that and lift it up in prayer, highlighting it as a milestone in their lives.”
All donated supplies will be going to the Children’s Learning Center, our on-site daycare service.
Keeping in line with the “back to school” theme, on Sunday August 12th during both 8 a.m. and 10:30 services there will also be a blessing and puppet show for teachers, students, and school administrators alike.
It’s still not too late to donate items! Drop off supplies from 9 a.m. to noon at the church (2505 N. Circle Drive) on the table in Fellowship Hall.
Supplies still needed: tissue boxes; round-tipped scissors; earbuds; bottled glue; water colors; wooden rulers; erasable pens; note-cards; quart and gallon-sized baggies; red pocket folders; highlighters (variety pack); red pens; pocket folders; Post-Its; 10 x 13 manilla folders; and mechanical pencils.
