Ascension Learns About Mining!
Posted on October 4, 2016 | Posted by Annie Saunders
On 29 Sept, thirteen Ascension members visited the Western Museum of Mining and Industry for a private tour of the museum given by Casey Pearce of the museum staff. This two hour tour was a follow-on to Casey’s presentation at SUP in August. Casey personalized the history of mining and the West and focused on the human factor. We learned about the terrible human cost that went into the development of this vital industry and the changes that have taken place to make it safer. Along the way, we learned the origin of the terms “grease monkey” “little nippers” “the real McCoy” and why Alfred Nobel instituted his peace prize. To find out more, visit the museum or ask any of those who went. We are deeply appreciative to Casey and the museum for this special opportunity, and we hope to have her speak again at SUP next year. Stay tuned, and be sure visit this unique Colorado Springs attraction.
